One of the most difficult things for self builders is finding a building plot of land. It happened to me, for about 10 years I was searching on and off to find the ideal plot of land. Do not despair, your plot is out there somewhere.

So how do you find self build plots of land ? Look at Estate Agents, Land Agents, Auctioneers/Valuers, Local Papers, Farmers Guardian, Land Finding Database Council Planning Offices and a good idea is to drive around your local area and pick out possible building plots. Possible plots of land could be part of large gardens or land with derelict buildings on.

Local Garden Plots of Self Build Land 

One ideal plot that I found about 12 years ago was part of a large garden. I approached the owner of the house and he told me that he had considered the possibility of a house in the garden. I enquired about how much the plot would cost, he told me about £10k. He then took advice from an Estate Agent, the price went up to £30k. End of story.
So I think the moral of the story is that there is land out there but at that particular time, it did not work out for me.

If you are serious about getting some land then you have to do the work and ring around the numbers. Do not forget your land is out there somewhere.
